From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A religion is an organized approach to human spirituality which usually encompasses a set of narratives, symbols, beliefs and practices, often with a supernatural or transcendent quality, that give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life through reference to a higher power, God or gods, or ultimate truth. It may be expressed through prayer, ritual, meditation, music and art, among other things. It may focus on specific supernatural, metaphysical, and moral claims about reality (the cosmos and human nature) which may yield a set of religious laws, ethics, and a particular lifestyle. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction. "Religion" is sometimes used interchangeably with "faith" or "belief system," but it is more socially defined than personal convictions, and it entails specific behaviors, respectively. The development of religion has taken many forms in various cultures. It considers psychological and social roots, along with origins and historical development. In the frame of western religious thought, religions present a common quality, the "hallmark of patriarchal religious thought": the division of the world in two comprehensive domains, one sacred, the other profane. Religion is often described as a communal system for the coherence of belief focusing on a system of thought, unseen being, person, or object, that is considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine, or of the highest truth. Moral codes, practices, values, institutions, tradition, rituals, and scriptures are often traditionally associated with the core belief, and these may have some overlap with concepts in secular philosophy. Religion is also often described as a "way of life" or a life stance. From Wikipedia under the

I used to believe in all the things my religion said, until I discover the world outside and found out that it wasn't true. What's worse, my religion doesn't accomodate to do good to a certain kind of people, and be kind to someone whom that it condemns, like homosexuals, jewish, etc. Am I wrong for quitting religion because I wanted to do good to all mankind and not being judgemental and negative stereotyping? A great deal of Christians and Muslims seem to show no good deeds. Answered by Hall of Skulls 7 (Fossilized) - Fri Jun 5 10:54:57 2009 Is religion still a necessity in the upkeep of a morally and ethically aware society? Q. In other words, without religion would humans lack the capability to be "good", or would we be good even without the presence of a divine authority judging our actions? What is it that drives us to be "good", god or common sense? Asked by abc123_aac - Sun Aug 31 13:35:53 2008 - - 16 Answers - 0 Comments A. Man, as a social animal, developed morals to help him get along with other men and survive and prosper. Religion borrowed those morals. Asked by Mercer - Wed Jun 17 10:25:01 2009 - - 9 Answers - 1 Comments A. i'm not an adult. [ i'm only 12 ] but i choose to follow agnosticism because i don't actually know if god, angels, heaven and hell, and all those things are real. mostly because there is no physical proof. god cannot be detected by any of the five senses, nor can heaven and hell, or angels. but who are we also, as people, to say that god is not real? he could somehow, some way be. it is yet to be proven the theological fact that god, indeed, is real and is watching over us. but people like me, who don't know what to believe, choose to follow agnosticism. : ) Answered by <3[: - Wed Jun 17 20:29:15 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "religion" Religion is a word which refers to approaches to human spirituality which usually encompass a set of narratives, symbols, beliefs and practices, often with a supernatural or transcendent quality, that give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life through reference to a higher power or truth.
