Etymology

From Ancient Greek -ισμός (-ismos), a suffix that forms abstract nouns of action, state, condition, doctrine; from Ancient Greek -ισμα (-isma), from stem of verbs in -ιζειν (-izein).

Many words are likely to be derived from the French -isme, which in turn are derived from the Latin -ismus. Other words are created newly in English, French or Latin with the suffix of that language.
